Funding Categories
Applicants for OLF grants must fit in one of three funding categories.
Category A
Category A consists of the full-service legal aid providers that make up the Association of Oregon Legal Services Programs as funded on January 1, 2000. Presently the association consists of Legal Aid Services of Oregon, the Oregon Law Center, and the Center for NonProfit Legal Services. Between 55% and 80% of OLF funding is reserved for Category A.
Category B
Category B consists of other direct civil legal services providers. Between 15% and 35% of OLF funding is reserved for Category B.
Category C
Category C consists of organizations that promote diversity in the legal profession or support education about the law. Between 0% and 10% of OLF funding is reserved for Category C.
Grant Selection
When making grant selections, we carefully evaluate applications based on the Grantee Standards, Guidelines, and Funding Categories outlined in our Policies and Procedures (pdf). To guide our decision-making process, we have created an Annual Grant Rubric (pdf). Since we support organizations at various stages of their development, the rubric serves as a guiding framework for discussions rather than a strict numeric grading system.
Grant Payments
The OLF pays grants in equal installments in the third month of each quarter of the grant year: March, June, September, and December.
Grant Reporting
Narrative Report
A narrative report is due on May 1 following the grant year.
Statistical Report
On May 1 following the grant year, Category A and Category B Grantees report grant year case closure numbers to the Oregon Law Foundation.

Emergency Grants
Emergency grants may be available to provide financial assistance to qualified programs whose needs are the result of an immediate unforeseen incident and who lack the resources to meet that situation.
